Photos capture the spirit of generosity so many Saia employees exhibited these last several weeks during our annual toy drive!
Saia again partnered with Toys for Tots this year, their 75th anniversary, as one of the organization's corporate sponsors. This is our eighth year as a partner of the organization, which has resulted in Saia and its employees donating thousands of toys to deserving children in the 187 communities where we operate. In addition to collecting toys at each one of our terminals, we also made a $50,000 donation to the charity.
This year, we’d like to recognize Los Angeles (LAX) City Driver John Varela who personally filled two Toys for Tots boxes himself! In fact, in previous years, John made it his personal mission to completely fill at least one box all on his own. John, we cannot thank you enough for your generosity! You truly embody our “Community” core value.
Along with John, we also want to recognize all the employees in Saia’s IT Department who donated over 30 bicycles and helmets to the ACO toy drive. Director of IT Infrastructure and Operations Jose Gonzalez said that they originally set out to donate 20 bikes this year, but surpassed their goal by more than 10. Wow! A big round of applause to Jose, and everyone working in IT! We appreciate your kindness and desire to provide a child with a wonderful gift they will always remember!
In recognition of Saia and its employees, retired Marine Col. and Toys for Tots Foundation Vice President Ted Silvester wrote a letter expressing his gratitude stating, “Your contribution will be used to fulfill the Christmas dreams of many of our nation’s children-in-need....I commend you for your thoughtfulness and generosity.”
