Around Saia
This month, we spotlight a dockworker's retirement, employees working to raise awareness about breast cancer, and two terminal food drives - one for a local food bank and another for an area school.
Dockworker Retires After 40 Years
Houston (HST) Regional Manager David Hanlon sent photos from Houma, Louisiana (HMA) Lead Dockworker Joel Cook’s retirement celebration. He said that Joel was dedicated to the company for 40 years, and had some of the best stories! His teammates at the terminal recognized him with a cake, trophy, and gifts. Joel, we wish you many happy, relaxing years! You’ve earned them! Thank you for your service to the company!
HGO Conducts Food Drive
Earlier this fall, Houma General Office (HGO) Casualty Claims Subrogation Adjuster Gypsy Pitre said team members at the office conducted a food drive for their local food bank, which was low on donations. Way to go HGO!
DLS Maintenance Shop Collects Food for Local School
Recently, Angela Martinez, the counseling secretary from Weatherford High School in Weatherford, Texas wrote to thank our Dallas, Texas (DLS) Maintenance Shop.
She said, “A huge thank you to Dallas Maintenance for their generous donation to the students at Weatherford High School. When they heard of the needs of some of our students, DLS Maintenance Shop Supervisor Gennaro Martinez stepped in to action and put out a call to the guys in the shop to help - and boy did they come through! Their donation will provide meals for over 100 students in need. Thank you!”
Terminals Raise Awareness for Breast Cancer
Employees at Saia’s Fontana, California (FON) terminal observed “Pink Week,” while team members in New Orleans, Louisiana (NOL) organized a breast cancer awareness event. According to Susan G. Komen, for nearly four decades now, the country has recognized October as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It is a time annually devoted to educating everyone about breast cancer.
