Around Saia
This month's Around Saia features stories on the TAC terminal opening, James Moore participating in the Share the Road Program, and employees participating in a truck driving championship.
New Tacoma Terminal Opens
Saia’s new Tacoma, Washington terminal opened in April. The terminal is in close proximity to the port and situates us closer to our customers. The Pacific Northwest has seen rapid economic growth in recent years so this new terminal allows us to handle additional capacity outside of our Seattle facility.
We currently have approximately 50 employees domiciled there. The 53 door terminal is located at:
2812 70th Avenue East, Fife, WA 98424
The management and sales team consists of :
Regional Manager – Mike Bean
Regional Sales Manager – Shannon Smith
Terminal Manager – John Standley
Account Executive – Jeff Taylor
We will continue adding terminals where needed to strengthen our network. As always, if you are interested in a transfer, please submit your request via the employee information center, or EIC.
Moore Teaches Students about Sharing the Road
Saia HST Driver Trainer and ATA Road Captain James Moore was recently in Roanoke, Virginia visiting schools and working with students to demonstrate blind spots and sufficient following distances for all drivers on the road.
“This past week I was in the Roanoke area visiting different schools and working with the students there to show them where blind spots are around a truck and why they should avoid lingering in those spots while driving,” James said. “We also showed why they shouldn’t follow too closely behind our trailer and demonstrated how far we travel before we come to a complete stop — demonstrating why they shouldn't cut us off and then come to a sudden stop.”
Drivers Compete in Lehigh Valley Truck Driving Championship Tune-up Drive
We recently had two drivers from the HBG Region compete in a tune-up competition for the Pennsylvania Motor Truck Association (PMTA). All proceeds raised by the competition fund the Lehigh Valley PMTA College Scholarship Fund. Over the past six years, the Lehigh Valley PMTA has awarded over $20,000 to college students pursuing careers in the transportation industry.
While there were drivers from numerous states that competed, two Saia drivers made a name for themselves at the competition. Both placed in the four-axle competition. Competitors that were on hand were impressed and made several positive comments when these drivers walked up to receive their awards. Be sure to congratulate them!
