Around Saia

This month, we feature an incredible photo at the HBG terminal and highlight several recent retirements.

Photo Showcases Beautiful Sky at HBG Terminal

HBG Terminal Manager Phillip Garrett said he and his wife stopped by the terminal one Saturday morning near the end of March and while he was inside, she snapped this incredible photo! Wow! Now we know where the pot of gold is hidden – just in time for St. Patrick’s Day!

Beloved Terminal Manager Retires

Long-time Zone Terminal Manager Paul Howard retired in March after 36 years with the company. While many of you may have read the note about him in our recent issue of Amplify, we wanted to take this opportunity to again recognize Paul’s service at both our Corpus Christi and Victoria, Texas terminals. Thank you, Paul, for a lifetime of dedication and hard work! You will be greatly missed by all those who knew and worked with you. All of us at Saia wish you a long and wonderful retirement!

Drivers Both Retire After 26 Years of Service

SPO City Driver Michael Arnold retired in February after 26 years with the company. Congratulations Michael! You will be missed!

Likewise, LCN City Driver Terry Mead retired after 26 years with the company. Coworkers, friends and family honored him with a reception at the terminal. According to KCY Regional Human Resources Manager Ron Ryan, “Terry stated he is looking forward to fishing and spending time with grandson.” Sounds terrific, Terry! We wish you many wonderful years ahead!

Line Driver Retires

SAV Line Driver Gary Daniel recently retired after 24 years at Saia! Colleagues, family and friends honored Gary with a party at a local restaurant. Thank you Gary! We wish you a long and happy retirement!

Driver Retires After Over Two Decades of Service

PEN Line Driver John Ford, holding the Saia truck, retired at the end of January after 22 years. He was hired on as a city driver and later transferred to linehaul, where he spent the last 14 years. John’s retirement was celebrated with a breakfast at the terminal. Congratulations John! We hope you are enjoying your retirement!

Mechanic Says Goodbye

PDX Mechanic Jim Fowler spent 31 years at Saia as a driver, driver-trainer, and, most recently, as a mechanic. According to PDX Regional Maintenance Manager Don Allen, they are going to miss Jim. “We were honored to have him on the maintenance team in PDX as he brought his many years of experience and insight as a driver and trainer (to the role). Jim helped reinforce integrity and consistency as he continued to display his true dedication for Saia and doing the right thing.” Thank you, Jim, for your many years of service! We wish you all the best!
