Annual International Roadcheck Scheduled for May
The initiative takes place across North America.
The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s (CVSA) International Roadcheck is scheduled for May 14 to 16. Roadcheck is a high-visibility, high-volume commercial motor vehicle inspection and regulatory compliance enforcement initiative that takes place over three days in United States, Canada, and Mexico.
CVSA-certified law enforcement personnel will inspect commercial motor vehicles and drivers at weigh/inspection stations, temporary sites, and mobile patrols to verify compliance with federal, state, provincial or territorial regulations. To help prepare drivers, the Safety Department be pushing out information over the next three weeks in relation to the annual inspection event.
While the focus on this year’s Roadcheck will be tractor protection systems and alcohol and controlled substance possession, one of the biggest areas of opportunity regarding CSA, or “Compliance, Safety, Accountability,” violations is hours of service (HOS). During a roadside inspection, an officer may ask to review your HOS records or request that the records be transferred to him or her. It is extremely important that every driver understands how to review or transfer their records to an officer.
As always, the gathered data during the three-day event will be shared later this year as a snapshot of the state of commercial motor vehicle and driver safety.
If any driver has any questions about International Roadcheck 2024, they should contact their terminal or regional safety manager.
