Around Saia
This month, we're featuring hurricane Ida assistance and long-time employees that all recently announced their retirements.
Saia Donates Money to Assist those Impacted by Hurricane Ida
Saia recently donated $5,000 to both Second Harvest and the NAACP – Terrebonne Parish Branch on behalf of all employees working in Houma in support of their efforts to help those in the community impacted by Hurricane Ida.
Outside of helping those affected by Ida, Second Harvest regularly works to support various food pantries, shelters, and outreach programs they’ve partnered with across South Louisiana. The NAACP provides advocacy, business entrepreneurship support, minority health outreach, and more to the African-American community living and working in the area.
In September, Saia and the NAACP held a public giveaway at the HGO to hand out cleaning supplies, food, gift cards, water, and personal hygiene items to anyone in need. Director of Revenue Management Sarmona Miller said they provided assistance to over 400 families/cars in just the one day.
“This event was huge for the community,” explained Sarmona. “There were cars lined up for miles. We are all living our core values by ‘taking care of each other’!”
TYL Driver Retires
Jeff Davis, a TYL line driver, retired recently after 22 years with the company. He was honored for his service with a retirement party at the terminal, where his co-workers, including Regional Manager Mike Whitwell, presented him with several going-away presents and expressed how much they would miss him. In return, Jeff made a point to say how fortunate we all are to work for a company that can afford us the opportunity to retire. Jeff, we wish you a wonderful retirement. Thank you for your dedication and service! It is greatly appreciated!
MPS Line Driver Bids Saia Farewell
MPS Line Driver Robert Howard retired earlier this month. He began his career at Saia in 1993. He was honored by his coworkers at the terminal who presented him with a Weber grill, among other gifts. Everyone said how much they were going to miss seeing him every day at the terminal. Robert, all of us wish you a long and wonderful retirement! Thank you for your years of service!
ATL Dispatcher Retires
Recently, Janice Duncan, an ATL central dispatcher, retired after working at the company for 23 years. Many of those years were spent in the Customer Service Department at the ACO before Janice changed roles and moved to the field. She was honored by her coworkers with a reception at the terminal featuring a cake, flowers and more. Janice, thank you for your service! All of us wish you a wonderful, happy retirement!
Employees Collect Items to Help Hurricane Ida Victims
Saia employees are known for their generosity. That’s why when Hurricane Ida hit Louisiana and the Gulf Coast, they asked, “What can we do to help?” The answer came in the form of items donated, collected and shipped from the CGO terminal to HST, where they were then dispersed to those in need.
“Your generosity is on its way to many who will be grateful for your selfless demonstration of our core values,” said CGO Regional Manager Bryan Turner to those in CGO who donated items. “This is the greatest thing we will do today, this week, maybe longer. Again, thank you to you and your teams for these humanitarian contributions.”
LAF Business Development Executive Embroiders Masks
LAF Terminal Manager Craig Bordelon wrote to recognize and thank a sales professional at his terminal for going above and beyond to fulfill a city driver’s request for a Saia-branded mask.
“During our last round of quarterly meetings, one of our city drivers suggested that with the pandemic it would be great to have a Saia-logoed mask. LAF BDE Monica Hebert went home and made each city driver an embroidered Saia mask, which she handed out during our next safety meetings. Now how cool is that? Thank you Monica. Your hard work is certainly appreciated by all.”
