Company Update
This month's Company Update spotlights the announcement of the new director of corporate security, the new directors of the maintenance and properties department, the new regional HR manager and two new terminal managers.
Bain Named Director of Corporate Security
Jason Bain was named Saia’s director of corporate security. Since October of 2020, Jason had worked for Saia as a regional human resources manager. He brings more than 20 years of security experience to this role, including the time he spent in the U.S. Marine Corps where he served in the Security Forces Infantry. Following his years in the military, he had progressively increasing roles of responsibility in his 15 years at Walmart in asset protection, ethics and compliance. He also spent three years at Bass Pro Shops, leading their loss prevention efforts. Jason received a bachelor’s degree in management from National Louis University and a master’s degree in international business management while studying abroad in Barcelona, Spain.
New Directors Named in Maintenance & Properties Department
Andrea Dalton-Lay and Brett Rabe were promoted to director of facilities management and director of real estate project management, respectively. The promotions will allow both Andrea and Brett to bring a more strategic element to their individual groups in their continued support of improving service levels and of our field operations groups. Andrea joined Saia in 2015 and most recently had been serving as our national real estate facilities manager. Brett began his career at the company in 2014 and since that time has lead our efforts in real estate capital projects involving the construction and renovation of our terminals and offices.
Morin Promoted to CND Terminal Manager
Derek Morin accepted the position of terminal manager for our Concord, New Hampshire terminal. Derek has worked in the industry since 2013, having served in both sales and operations positions. In 2019, he accepted an operations supervisor role with Saia in which he played a vital part in the openings of both our CND and BVT terminals. During his time with the company, he has served as both an inbound and outbound supervisor in our CND terminal. Derek is a Marine Corps veteran, and holds a master’s degree in business administration in operations and supply chain management from Southern New Hampshire University.
Shipp Accepts Regional HR Manager Position
Valerie Shipp was promoted to regional human resources manager for our ATL/CLT regions. Valerie began her career in the freight industry in 1988 when she started with Georgia Highway Express/Transus, Inc. She worked there through their acquisition in 2000 by YRC Freight until they closed their doors in 2010. In January 2012, she joined the Saia team as the ATL office manager, where she has enjoyed building many long-lasting relationships. Valerie received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Georgia State University and a bachelor’s degree in biblical studies from Andersonville Theological Seminary in Camilla, Georgia. She is also a certified life coach via the Georgia Life Coach Academy.
Thomas Named FWN Terminal Manager
Charles Thomas has accepted the position of terminal manager at our Fort Wayne, Indiana terminal. Charles has 20 years of industry experience having served as both a terminal manager of three different locations and as an operations compliance manager during this span. He joins us most recently following an entrepreneurial endeavor that has concluded, allowing him to return to his roots in the LTL industry.
